Five For Friday: April 22nd

This has been a fun week!

My kids are independent enough to work on projects. And they LOVE it.

This week was life cycle week. We used what was available in our science books to take notes, and then the students chose a life cycle to create out of Crayola Model Magic.

They turned out really cute!

Like most primary classrooms in America, my students put some beans in a bag to watch them grow.

I went to Target and picked up three bags of beans. One being black beans. I'm usually a lima bean kind of girl.

Do you see that black bean?! Grew right through the bag!

Needless to say, the black bean is the new lima bean.

Thank you Scholastic Book Club for dollar books! I'm reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume to my kids. It's the prerequisite to Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great. I loved this book as a kid.
I cannot stand the word lazy nor can I stand laziness.  It just really bothers me.

Unfortunately, we're having some issues with that in class. For things that should be considered fun.

So, we are now using the word industrious.

"Are you being industrious?"

Which reminds me, have you shown your class these adorable Class Dojo videos? This one is my absolute favorite!

It's about a little monster that is giving up on something new to her.

She finds out that she's in "the dip," which is where we all get stuck when we're learning something new.

This is the conversation I heard this week:

Girl: This is hard!
Boy: It's OK, you're just in the dip.

Not a long conversation, but cuter than anything I've ever heard!

I wrote a post about my top 10 favorite read alouds (for now). You can read it here.

I love hearing what other teachers are reading, so I thought I'd share some of the books I love.

Thanks for stopping by. Head on over to Doodle Bugs Teaching to link up or to read some more.

  1. Your life cycle models are super cute! Ugh, laziness! It's the worst at this time of year! I'm going to start using industrious, too...great word!
